What is Payroll Deduction?

A new way to join AVANA

In May 2017 AVANA announced a new way to join the organization.  After many months of collaboration with VA Central Office of Financial Payroll Service and Financial Services Center,  we have established a system for members to have dues paid via payroll deduction!  The dues is taken out automatically from your pay – $4.81 per pay period, in the same way as union dues would be.   You should see it on your paystub under the heading Union /Prof Org  with a code VJA.  We encourage all members to sign up via payroll deduction and ask your coworkers to do the same.

  1. The application form must be completed in its entirety and submitted to your local Payroll Office. (Timekeepers know who that is).
  2. Then please remember to white out or cover up your Social Security number and send a copy of the form to our treasurer.  This step ensures that AVANA has a record of you joining instantly, instead of waiting for the payroll department. You can cover your SSN with a pen, take a picture with your phone, and email it to veteranscrna@gmail.com.

We have found that no new organizations have established payroll deduction within the VA for over 15 years prior to our attempt.  An entire new process had to be developed and some payroll offices may not be familiar with it.  If you experience any difficulty with this please inform us and we will be glad to work with you to share the national directive with your individual payroll office.  This will be a great way for members to stay engaged and not have to renew each February.  Tell your friends!
